Indie alt-rockers Daytime TV made a triumphant return to live shows after a seven-month hiatus this week with a celebratory show at London's iconic Old Blue Last. The venue sold out in a single day and provided an appropriately thematic spot for such a vibrant return to the stage.

Supported by a rousing duo of False Head and Blush Puppy, the tight confines of the venue meant that the audience sweltered as they worked up a sweat to the spirited sets, which cultivated a great atmosphere before the headliner.

After a brief changeover, Daytime TV emerged onto the stage, and they were greeted by a rowdy cheer from the dedicated fans in attendance. The months-long period of creative seclusion had done nothing to dull the passion from either the band or their fans.

Opening with “So Sick” from their 2024 EP “Island”, the band sounded powerful as infectious melodies had the audience singing along as they danced. Playing a set that spanned across their various releases, including new singles and as-yet-unreleased material, the band sounded thoroughly kinetic as they channelled the pent-up energy of the last few months without shows into an explosive performance, which really helped to translate their alt-rock to a live environment.

A particular highlight came in the form of the unreleased track “Anger Management”, which saw the lead singer wade into the frenzied crowd. Yells of the refrain “Anger management” acted as a moment of catharsis for both the band and the audience. Latest single “Pause” sounded grittier live, with the band’s driven guitars feeling more prominent in the mix, while still retaining the funky dance vibes of the track. Declaring “Little Victories” as their last song, the band wrought every ounce of energy from the Tuesday crowd. The track’s roaring chorus sounded ready-made for arenas, making the intimate venue sound expansive.

Immediate shouts of “One more song!” brought the band back to the stage, where they performed an unrehearsed rendition of “Digital Light”. Fans roared in appreciative delight as the band left everything they had on the stage, before deeply thanking all in attendance for their support and telling them that more music and tour dates will be on their way.

From the first second to the last beat, Daytime TV came to make a statement.

They are back.
